Specialist in prison reform at Unodc, drugs and crime, analyzes how to reduce contagion in prisons
More than 527,000 prisoners worldwide have been infected with the Covid-19 virus in 47 countries. Of this total, 3,800 lost their lives to the disease.
The data are the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Unodc, which holds the 14th Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, in Kyoto, Japan.
The UN agency's prison reform expert Philipp Meissner says inmates are "disproportionately" affected by the new coronavirus.
