Entertainment or a metaphor that books are also food? I think both. Definitely, a beautiful attitude towards the mental and cultural health of the city.
Today a beautiful attitude came to my eyes and fed my daily dose of hope: I read in an article in Folha that, in Montevideo, about 5000 books were included as “ingredients” in basic baskets.
I immediately questioned myself that the attitude was aimed at the entertainment of people who are in confinement. However, there is an even more powerful metaphor in this gesture: books are also essential foods.
I even, on one occasion, compared reading to "nutrition".
TODAY READING INVADED MY DAY, ROOTED IN MY INSTANT AND NUTRIATED THOUGHTS ...
Books really are like food for our bodies. They bring nutrients that improve vision, prevent mental illness and even Alzheimer's. Who can say otherwise?
In Montevideo there were Camus, Jules Verne, Hermann Hesse, George Orwell… .all of them ready to be literally “devoured”!
The idea, according to Juan Canessa, general secretary of the city and creator of the city, the intention was to bring people more than something to overcome the emergency. They wanted to caress people's hearts.
I think they did it. It was a beautiful and poetic initiative.
